Love Your Food Like I Love Naan Kebabs by Nabira Zainab

When I was still in elementary school, specifically in 2nd grade, the students in my class made fun of me. Naan Kebab is a well-known food in Pakistan and all around the world. I had my lunch with me while I was in the classroom, and some girls could smell my food, kebab. Kebabs consist of cut-up or ground meat, seldom with vegetables, and numerous other accompaniments according to the specific recipe. Although, kebabs are typically cooked on a skewer over a fire. Some kebab dishes are baked in a pan in an oven. The traditional meat for kebabs is most often mutton or lamb, but regional recipes may include beef, goat, chicken, fish, or other meat that would taste good. Naan is a leavened, oven-baked flatbread found in the cuisines mainly of Western Asia, South Asia, and Indonesia, and etc. It was clear that they were disgusted by the strong smell of onions and spices. They knew it was from my meal because they kept on looking at me. They began to make fun of my food and said it smelt like farts. Nevertheless, the reality is that the smell is delicious, but they are not used to it. My family has been eating it for a long time since I was a child. My family has been eating Naan  Kebabs for generations. We eat Naan Kebabs on holidays like Eid or at weddings, festival parties, lunch or dinner etc. People do not know a lot about desi cultural food, which makes them think they can make fun of it. My heart was a storm because of their words. They were invariably mocking other meals because it was different. For instance, these girls made fun of my Chinese classmate who brought in fish soup. This is an example of implicit bias because they were making fun of my culture without comprehending it. They compared Naan Kebab to fart smells, and that made me feel very dejected because they were mocking my cultural food. That day, I  didn't finish the rest of my meal. But this is not a new feeling, sometimes I won't always want to eat my desi food because I feel discriminated against, so I eat it after school or on school trips. When I heard my classmates say these terrible statements about my meal, I decided not to bring Naan Kebab to school again. However, I like Naan Kebab. People saying bad things about my cultural food cannot stop me from eating them, but I won't have to eat them in class, I will still eat them. People should not be judging other's traditional meals or foods that they aren’t used to and that it is different. If something is incompatible with someone, it is better to learn about it. If you love eating your cultural food, don’t let someone discourage you from eating your food. Love your food like how I love Naan Kebab!

Jet Ski Horror by Hanna

I remember the time that I was at summer camp and I was about to go on a Jetski. It was a sunny day with bright blue skies. My friends and I were super nervous. I was especially nervous because once I fell on a Jetski and it was terrifying. I felt like I was going to die. As I was putting on my life jacket it felt like a million butterflies were flying around in my stomach. Although, once I got on, all my worries went away. I felt safe and calm. However, as we got farther out into the ocean I started to become nervous again. The Jetski started to go really fast. My grip was so tight that my hand felt like it was on fire. I did not know how much longer I could hold on to the rope but It was the only thing keeping me from being in the ocean. My counselor and I started screaming our head off!! The instructor was going way too fast. We begged him to slow down but that only lasted for a second. Finally after what felt like days, but really only four minutes we got to land again. I was so happy to be off the Jetski. I will never forget that moment.

P.S. I’m never going on a Jetski AGAIN

The Bunny Story by Aubrey

In the forest there were tall orange trees.

When I was going deep in the forest I saw a bunny.

The boy bunny was white and fluffy.

It was curled up, it liked cuddles.

When I was going home with the bunny, I felt a nice breeze.

The breeze was comfortable, the breeze was cozy.

I promised that I would take care of the bunny but I did not.

I did not give the bunny food.

The bunny felt sad, the bunny felt hungry.

When we got home I had an idea.

I decided to make a chart with my mom so we can remember to feed the bunny.

We made the chart when I came home from school.

Now I could remember to feed my bunny.

Now the bunny had food.

The bunny ate carrots, apples, and mangoes.

The bunny felt full, The bunny felt stuffed.

The End

By Giovanni Soto

My parents and I were driving past a puppy shop. We were just going in to look at puppies. There were so many types of dogs so then I wanted one. I kept begging to get one and my dad said you have to take care of it. I said I will. My mom did not really want one and she asked who will take care of it. I said I will. My dad said sure but now I needed my mom to say yes. Well, then I carried some of the dogs so I saw one that was so cute! Then I saw another dog and it had green eyes. My dad liked that one. It was a really hard decision to pick a dog. I did not want a chiwawa because it barks a lot. Then I saw the perfect dog. It was black and white, the breed is Shih Tzu Maltese it was so cute. I wanted that dog and I got it. Before we left the pet store we had to name it So I said let's name her Oreo. The store gave us a box to put her in. Then we went to Petco to get her a bed. She tried to jump out of the box. When we arrived at Petco we also got Oreo toys. I was really excited it was the first dog I've ever had in my entire life. When my parents and I got back home we tried to train her. It took one week for her to learn to sit. It took two weeks for her to learn to lay. It took one year to teach oreo to do ahead of five. Now oreo is 2 years old in dog years 14.

The Broken Arm by Rehan

It was a sunny day. First I was playing with a toy car. Then I went outside because I was bored. I stood on the wall and I slipped. I landed on my arm on the sidewalk. My arm hurt so much that tears came out of my eyes. I couldn’t move my arm because of the pain. My mom took me in her lap. I hugged her tightly with my other arm. She put an ice pack but the pain didn’t go away. My heart was beating so fast. My mom and my sister took me to the hospital. I took an x-ray with a cool machine inside a dark room all by myself. The doctor said my arm was broken. My dad hurried to the hospital. I couldn’t eat for 3 hours. Then the doctor took me to another room. My mom and dad weren’t allowed inside. I thought the doctor would cut my arm and my whole body was shaking. The hospital room was so cold that I was shivering. The doctor pulled and twisted my arm tightly. It hurt so much and I couldn’t stop crying. Finally at 5 AM I came back home. My sister opened the door for me. I was so sleepy that my eyes closed immediately. It was a horrible day of my life. My arm pained so much that I will never forget. Now I know I shouldn’t play on top of high walls.

Why are Black Lives Matter important? By Theo

All lives matter, it's the truth and we all know that. But there is a problem in America and that is racism. We should all support black lives matter because if we just stay home, nothing will change. They say we can’t break the rules, I say we rewrite the rules. A lot of colored people faced racial bias from slavery to police brutality. We must learn to fight against our rivals and love and forgive our rivals. In the end, we can all do our part to end racism. We can all stop racism even if we all are different races. We should all raise awareness of the Black Lives Matter community

Theo was walking home from a regular day at school. Usually when school ends kids would be either walking, taking the bus, getting picked up, or riding the train. Theo was one of those people that took the train and the bus. When he travels home he usually takes the train, bus and then walks from there home. However, his mom was picking him up so he did not have to walk home today. The streets are sometimes crowded, depending on how many people are going to take that path.

Theo was walking to his mom’s car until he saw two police officers, 1 of them looked white and the other looked Asian. The police officers stopped me in the middle of the road! Everyone looked at me like I was in a talent show and I had stage fright. They asked me my name like the Judges when they ask questions in American’s Got Talent. Theo responded corporately and the Police Officers looked at each other and left.

Theo was slightly confused but at the same time, he did not wanna be hit by a car so he kept on walking safely to his mom’s car.

That was a true story and I mean sure I was not in a really bad situation like other people’s stories but it could have been worse! As a result, I was determined to grow Black Lives Matter for an example, I helped start a Black Lives Matter club in my school! And I am hopeful that we can end racism!

The Aquarium Trip By Ridika

It was a sunny day. The sun was shining in the sky. I went to the aquarium with my mom and dad. We took the train to the aquarium. First we saw sea lions. The sea lions were black and grey. They were swimming and doing a talent show. Then we saw a different type of fish. In the tank, we saw big and small clown fish. Each fish was swimming in the tank and they came near me. At first I was a little scared but my dad said that fish aren't scary. The fish had really cool features like gills. Last we saw sharks swimming in the water. The sharks were my most favorite because I like their strong sharp teeth. After a lot of fun my family and I came back home in the train. I was really excited in the train because I saw a big shark. It was like a dream came true. I will never forget my trip to the aquarium and all the fun we had.
